Job Description :

This position is on a federal Abilityone contract that requires that most of the work hours are performed by employees with disabilities. Due to program requirements, this particular position must be filled by a person with a disability.


Operator works a rotating shift to provide 24 hour coverage of the switchboard seven days per week.                      

Screen & route incoming calls                           

Provide instructions & assistance                    

to callers within and outside the medical center.                              

Process all incoming/outgoing calls                         

Assist in placing local and long distance calls                        

Answer all emergency calls & alarms                      

Operate radio, audio and digital paging systems                               

Maintain appropriate records                    

Perform paging services as required within the hospital                

Provide general information as requested (I.e. visiting hours)                    

Provide pager distribution within the hospital for specific VA employees                              










Required Qualifications :

Excellent written & verbal communication skills                

Excellent grammar and proofreading skills                           

Must have a good speaking voice                            

Must type a minimum of 40 works per minute                  

Excellent customer service skills                               


Must be able to work any rotating shift                

Must have excellent organizational skills                         

Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
